UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL 59 th session Interactive Dialogue with the Working Group on discrimination against women and girls 24 June 2025 EU statement   Mr. President, Working Group, The European Union welcomes the presentation of your report. In it, you conclude that emerging demographic and political trends are likely to further increase the unequal share of unpaid care and support, and also human rights violations for all women and girls, especially those experiencing poverty and marginalization.  Especially in light of the increased global pushback against gender equality, the EU continues - and will continue  - to champion gender equality and the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights by all women and girls, and their empowerment in line with international commitments.  To this end, it is crucial to challenge traditional gender roles, sexism, including in relation to care, as well as negative social norms on a broader scale. Tackling entrenched gender stereotypes, sexism and discriminatory social norms is a first step in redistributing and achieving equal sharing of responsibilities for care and housework within households. Other steps are also necessary, and the EU is committed to continue working in this direction.  Members of the Working Group, When it comes to transforming care and support systems, what measure have you seen make a rapid and measurable difference towards eliminating all forms of discrimination against women and girls and achieving...
