Stockholm, 13 June, 2025: The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is closely monitoring increasing SARS-Co V-2 activity in the EU/EEA, and the emergence of the recently identified Omicron-descendant variant NB.1.8.1 has been associated with a rise in infections in some countries in Asia, including China, Hong Kong and Singapore. Stockholm, 13 June, 2025: The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) is closely monitoring increasing SARS-Co V-2 activity in the EU/EEA, and the emergence of the recently identified Omicron-descendant variant NB.1.8.1 has been associated with a rise in infections in some countries in Asia, including China, Hong Kong and Singapore. ECDC is tracking five SARS-Co V-2 variants currently circulating in the EU/EEA, including NB.1.8.1, now classified as a ‘variant under monitoring’ by both ECDC and the World Health Organization (WHO).
