Political context, problem definition and subsidiarity check Political context The Regulation on transparency and targeting of political advertising was published in the Official Journal of the European Union on 20/03/2024. It will fully enter into application on 10/10/2025. The new rules will: • ensure high common standards of transparency in political advertising across the EU • provide a level playing field in the internal market • make it easier for everyone to recognise political ads and understand who is behind them. • protect the right to data protection, with due regard to the freedom of expression and information, as well as free and plural media.
