MEPs will explore regional innovation and sustainability initiatives and cross-border cooperation in sparsely populated areas. During the three-day trip, they will meet with local representatives from the city of Östersund and the Jämtland Härjedalen region. Visits to Mid Sweden University and an electronic aircraft testing arena will provide MEPs with an opportunity to learn more about local research and development activities. The trip will also include a visit to the Gaaltije South Sami Cultural Centre and meetings with stakeholders from the tourism industry and other small businesses. The purpose of the trip is to find out how EU can better support the needs of the region with cohesion policy, and to discuss the role of regional development in the context of the upcoming proposal for the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF 2028–2034). The delegation will be led by Vladimir Prebilič (Greens/EFA, SL). Tsvetelina Penkova (S&D, BG) and Sofie Eriksson (S&D, SV) will also participate.
