European Commission -Speech [Check Against Delivery] Commissioner Roswall's speech at an event to mark EUREAU's 50th Anniversary Brussels, 22 May 2025 Good evening, everyone and thank you, Pär, for your kind invitation. It is a pleasure to be here today to celebrate EUREAU's 50 th anniversary. It is also an opportunity to laugh a bit together on what is maybe a coincidence – or the proof – that we humans are meant to create history together. EarEau was initiated in 1972 by a small group of water supply professionals from six European countries with the purpose to provide input on water legislation. I was born in 1972. You – EarEau - have now for more than five decades been a respected voice for Europe's drinking and wastewater operators. I am the first ever EU Commissioner with the word water in the title. So I think we can say that we are making history together. And my history would not be happening, if you had not been there to push for change. So let me say from my heart and – I'm sure – from the heart of many Europeans: Thank you for being here, alive and kicking, after 50 years of service to the EU project. Water is everywhere. It's been called the new gold. It's been called the new oil. It's central to our security, our resilience, our economy and our health and wellbeing. And from where I'm standing, it's going to be central to much of the work that the Commission will do in this mandate. Whether we talk about competitiveness, the clean and green...
