Commission Decision regarding the follow-up to National Parliaments' Opinions - reply to SENÁT (CZ) - COM(2024)577 final

EUROPEAN COMMISSION Dear President, Brussels, 16.5.2025 C(2025) 3153 final Mr Miloš Vystrčil President of the Senát Valdštejnské náměstí 17/4 CZ 118 01 PRAGUE 1 The Commission would like to thank the Senát for its Opinion on the proposal for a Regulation amending Regulations (EU) No 1308/2013, (EU) 2021/2115 and (EU) 2021/2116 as regards the strengthening of the position of farmers in the food supply chain {COM(2024) 577 final}. In proposing these measures, the Commission responds to the concerns expressed by farmers during 2023/2024 protests1 and takes into account the recommendations of the Strategic Dialogue on the Future of EU Agriculture to strengthen the position of farmers in the food supply chain2. Strengthening the position of farmers in the food supply chain is a priority of the Commission, reflected in President von der Leyen’s Political Guidelines for the period 2024-20293. With the proposal for a targeted amendment of the Common Market Organisation Regulation (‘CMO Regulation’)4, the Commission aims to further strengthen the position of farmers in the food supply chain, aiming to enhance cooperation among agricultural producers, ensure more transparent contractual relations and support voluntary approaches to promote greater social sustainability in the agri-food chain, while preserving a market-oriented approach.
