Human rights MEPs in Geneva to discuss global human rights challenges
Ahead of the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, a delegation of MEPs of the subcommittee on Human Rights will meet with members of the Offices of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and with representatives of international organisations, civil society members and diplomatic representatives.

Ahead of the 80th anniversary of the UN Charter, a delegation of MEPs of the subcommittee on Human Rights will meet with members of the Offices of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), and with representatives of international organisations, civil society members and diplomatic representatives. They will discuss global human rights issues, support to the human rights pillar of UN work, and ways to address the profound challenges currently faced by the rules-based multilateral order. The delegation will be composed of the following Members: - Mounir SATOURI, Chair (Greens/EFA, France) - Reinhold LOPATKA (EPP, Austria) -Isabel WISELER-LIMA (EPP, Luxembourg) - Rima HASSAN (The Left, France) Background The UN Charter is the founding document of the United Nations. It was signed on 26 June 1945, in San Francisco, at the conclusion of the United Nations Conference on International Organization, and came into force on 24 October 1945. The UN Charter is an instrument of international law, and UN Member States are bound by it. The text codifies the major principles of international relations, from sovereign equality of States to the prohibition of the use of force in international relations.
