Political context, problem definition and subsidiarity check Political context [max 10 lines] The President’s Political Guidelines make simplification, reducing administrative burden and improving regulatory compliance some of the key political priorities of the new College, reflecting also the findings of the Letta and Draghi reports. In summer 2024, 12 Member States sent a joint non-paper to the Commission advocating for measures to “make the process of complying with reporting obligations easier for businesses.” The European Business Wallet is part of the Competitiveness Compass as “the cornerstone of doing business simply and digitally in the EU”. Additionally, it is included as a priority in the Commission work programme 2025. The European Business Wallet initiative builds on eIDAS Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 and Amendment Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 and complements the key benefits of the European Digital Identity Wallet for natural persons.
