However, the protests swiftly deteriorated into rioting and looting throughout the United States with the regular participation of Antifa, a loosely knit organisation using ‘black bloc’ tactics to sow terror on American streets, targeting not only public property, which sustained enormous damage, but also private property, police officers, political opponents and any other American citizens who just happened to be in the way. That is why US President Donald Trump decided to declare Antifa a terrorist organisation. The same questions now arise in the European Union: 1.
