European Commission - Statement Readout from the call between Commissioner Šefčovič and Ms Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization Brussels, 27 June 2025 Commissioner Šefčovič had a very good phone call with WTO Director-General Ngozi. This follows their recent engagement on the sidelines of the June OECD Ministerial in Paris. The focus remains on our shared ambition to preserve a rules-based trading system and to work together on ways to revitalise and strengthen it. This includes the pressing need for a meaningful reform of the WTO to tackle today's realities and trade challenges, like non-market policies. We will achieve more if we seize this opportunity collectively. Therefore, the EU has been engaging with other like-minded partners to explore how best to reinvigorate the WTO and the rules-based trading system as such. STATEMENT/25/1657
