EU Ambassador Toivo Klaar Makes First Official Visit to Kashkadarya Region

Ambassador Klaar began his visit with a meeting with the Khokim of Kashkadarya, Mr. Murotjon Azimov, where he emphasised the EU’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Uzbekistan and highlighted Brussels’ growing interest in developments across Central Asia, as well as in strengthening ties with individual regions of Uzbekistan. The sides agreed on the benefits of GSP+ preferences for producers in Kashkadarya and on the usefulness of EU supported programmes for local agriculture. They also discussed the potential of local tourism development and the desirability to further strengthen ties with the EU and individual Member States in the spheres of education and tourism. The Ambassador also visited farmers within the EU-funded project “Inclusive and Climate-Smart Investment Financing in the Livestock Sector”, which is implemented by the French Agency for Development. He met with young credit beneficiaries in Chirokchi and Kukdala districts who are employing modern equipment and infrastructure, and applying sustainable farming practices. As part of his outreach to youth and academia, Ambassador Klaar delivered a speech at Karshi State Technical University.
