European Commission - Daily News Daily News 03 / 06 / 2025 Brussels, 3 June 2025 Commission endorses positive preliminary assessment of Sweden's first payment request for €1.6 billion under the Recovery and Resilience Facility The European Commission has endorsed a positive preliminary assessment of Sweden's first payment request for €1.6 billion under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), part of NextGenerationEU. Following the submission of the request on 20 December 2024, the Commission confirmed that Sweden has successfully completed 27 milestones and targets, addressing key reforms and investments across sectors such as climate action, digitalisation, education and training. Flagship measures include an investment to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by an additional 540,000 tonnes annually through the “Climate Leap” scheme, which supports local and regional projects. Another key initiative is the broadband expansion project, which will provide over 66,000 additional buildings with access to high-speed broadband, thereby narrowing the digital divide between urban and rural areas. This positive assessment highlights Sweden's continued progress in implementing reforms and investments that will drive a greener, more digital, and inclusive future for its citizens and businesses.
