European Union High-level visit 28- 31 May
Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radosław Sikorski, is visiting Sri Lanka on 28–31 May on behalf of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. Poland’s Foreign Minister, Radosław Sikorski, is visiting Sri Lanka on 28–31 May on behalf of the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas. Minister Sikorski has held official meetings with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath. The agenda for the visit reflects the broad and close relations between the European Union and Sri Lanka in many areas, such as trade and development, democracy, rule of law and human rights, environment and climate change, maritime security and safety, and multilateralism. The EU is a steadfast partner to Sri Lanka in its efforts for economic recovery. During the visit, Foreign Minister Sikorski has also attended an informal dialogue hosted by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce with key stakeholders from the private and public sector to discuss “Europe-Sri Lanka partnership: unlocking investment potential”. The EU single market is Sri Lanka’s second largest export destination with exports of EUR 2.7 billion in 2024. The meeting also discussed the Global Gateway that is the EU’s contribution to narrowing the global investment gap worldwide. The private sector is a key stakeholder along EU and EU Member States institutions, partner countries, development finance institutions, amongst others.
