European Commission -Speech [Check Against Delivery] Commissioner Roswall's speech at the Bioeconomy Exhibition Brussels, 26 May 2025 Good morning to all, dear Sari, First of all, congratulations on this excellent event. It's fantastic to see bioeconomy innovation in action. In Brussels, we spend much of our time talking, writing, and analysing — but today is a refreshing change. Being surrounded by real projects, seeing tangible results, and having the chance to exchange ideas and draw inspiration — that's truly valuable. Thank you for making that possible. This is what the transition to a decarbonised, circular, resilient and clean economy is really about. The projects we see here today are evidence that the transition is happening. It needs to happen, because climate change and environmental degradation are advancing. At the same time, these projects are evidence as to how many new opportunities it creates for Europe and its businesses. The bioeconomy is very much at the heart of what we do to tackle Europe's challenges: We must boost our competitiveness, and strengthen our resilience in an uncertain world. The transition to more bio-based materials and more circularity is one of the keys for Europe to get there. Wood is a strategic asset and one of the oldest and most adaptable resources known to humankind.
