European Commission -Speech [Check Against Delivery] Speech by Commissioner Micallef delivered at EU Sport Forum Krakow, 10 April 2025 Playing together, competing with passion, growing stronger, learning more and pushing yourself to be better – that is what sport is about! It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2025 EU Sport Forum in the beautiful city of Krakow. This city, rich in cultural heritage and a deep passion for sport, provides the perfect setting to discuss the role of sport in our societies and to shape the future of sport in Europe. And when I say Krakow has a passion to sport, I have in mind events like the European Games which took place in 2023 – for the first in the European Union and were also supported by EU funds. And the Krakow Marathon which took place just few days ago. A competition that brings together thousands of runners from around the world. It is an elite-level event, but its grassroots participation reminds us that sport is for everyone. During this Marathon runners passed by the KS Cracovia 1906 Centennial Hall. A Sports Centre for People with disabilities A facility that stand for the values of inclusion, tradition, and innovation. Values that are so strongly embedded into our European Sport Model.
