Media advisory: EU and Japan to hold second Strategic Dialogue in Brussels

On Friday, 4 April, the EU and Japan will hold their 2 nd Strategic Dialogue. The meeting will be co-chaired by High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Takeshi Iwaya. On Friday, 4 April, the EU and Japan will hold their 2 nd Strategic Dialogue. The meeting will be co-chaired by High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Takeshi Iwaya. During the meeting, the EU and Japan will discuss how to further strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the security and defence area, as well as address ongoing challenges to the international rules-based order, and foreign policy priorities such as Russia’s illegal war of aggression against Ukraine, developments in the Indo-Pacific, and the evolving situation in the Middle East. The Strategic Dialogue will start at 14:45 Brussels time. Audiovisual material will be available on EBS. Background The establishment of a Strategic Dialogue at foreign ministerial level was agreed at the 2023 EU-Japan Summit. The 1 st dialogue was held on 1 November 2024 in Japan. During the last Dialogue, the EU and Japan announced the EU-Japan Security and Defence Partnership. The agreement underlines the strategic importance of deepening cooperation on security and defence in the face of growing and multifaceted security challenges.
